Next Level Cold Wax Creations (Aug 5-7)

Skill Level: Intermediate (students must have prior experience painting with cold wax and oil)
During this intensive, informative, and upbeat workshop you’ll dive deep into exploring your artistic voice and creating cold wax and oil paintings that reflect YOU! We’ll focus on exploring new techniques and increasing your skill with the medium and tools. We’ll work from quick studies and exercises to completed paintings. I’ll do several demos throughout the workshop, and you’ll receive lots of personal instruction to help you work through your paintings, get “out of your head” and move forward in new and exciting ways. All in an encouraging, nurturing, and fun environment!

During these three days, you’ll:
Strengthen your ability to incorporate the elements and principles of design into your own work
Explore new techniques
Experiment with glazes, solvents, Pan Pastels and more
Play with texture to help strengthen and unify your paintings
Learn how to critique and edit your own work
Learn color mixing techniques to help harmonize and strengthen your paintings
Explore drawing within and on top of cold wax
Have the opportunity to work in a series
Be able to review your work and determine if it is finish
Have FUN!
Student Supply List
Cold Wax – Dorland’s or Gamblin (Start with the 16 oz. size)
Gessoed wood painting panels or wood cradled panels – four to eight panels total
(no smaller than 12” x 12” and no larger than approx. 24” x 30”). Don’t go too large as there is limited space.

You can also bring ¼” thick cut birch wood: https://amzn.to/3jI0DgZ. For an inexpensive option you can buy ¼” tempered Masonite at Home Depot cheap and they can cut it to any size.
Also, if you have cold wax paintings that you have been working on (that have a few layers) PLEASE bring them!
Oil Paints –
Mars Black (or any other black)
Titanium White
1 – 2 favorite red or orange (i.e., Naphthol Red, Cadmium Orange, etc.)
A favorite blue (i.e., Ultramarine Blue, Manganese Blue, Phthalo Blue, Prussian Blue, Indigo, etc.)
Cadmium Yellow Medium, Hansa Yellow, or French Yellow
Cadmium Yellow Light or something similar
Yellow Ochre
Quinacridone Magenta
Indian Yellow
Any others you love!!
Palette paper - larger size (16” x 20”) is better
Latex gloves or the like to protect your hands
Paper Towels
Optional Supplies:

Arches Oil Paper – any size – ONLY IF YOU WANT TO PAINT ON PAPER. I will also have some. Any collage materials you would like to use.
