Students will be immersed in a step-by-step process of drawing, painting, and collage resulting in works that celebrate self-expression as well as believable figures in an environment.  Minimum anatomy = Maximum self-expression!   

Goals:

  • Practice and gain greater mastery of drawing and composition

  • Understand basic proportion and silhouette of the figure

  • Explore the use of positive/negative space for design and powerful expression

  • Encourage experimentation using layers of paint and paper

  • Gain experience in the techniques of acrylic painting

  • Become comfortable using the medium of collage

  • Learn how to simplify the human form from a variety of source material

  • Acquire the confidence to keep working on your own!

Student Supply List:

  • Drawing:

  • Pencils (2H and 4 – 6B)

  • Pencil sharpener

  • White block eraser

  • Ink pens (0.5 suggested)

  • Sketch paper (can be inexpensive copy paper or spiral bound sketchbook)

  • Acrylic Paints

    • Ultramarine Blue

    • Phthalo Blue

    • Yellow Ochre

    • Lemon Yellow

    • Viridian

    • Sap Green

    • Alizarin Crimson

    • Burnt Sienna

    • White

  • Acrylic Tools

  • Assortment of brushes (some soft, some bristle-type)

  • Palette knife

  • Palette (paper or plastic panel)

  • Resealable palette and/or small cups with lids are helpful!

  • Vessel for water

  • Collage

  • Colored tissue paper

  • White rice paper

  • Acrylic matte medium

  • Ruler

  • Scissors
